1968年9月25日出生于美国费城、本名Willard Smith的Will Smith，是在16岁那年与比他年长不到三岁、充满抱负的DJ Jeff Townes相遇，两人其他网站即合，随即组成DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince二人组，且立刻在家乡造成轰动。稍后，Will Smith更放弃麻省理工学院提供他的奖学金，选择在音乐专业一搏，于是，DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince得以在1987年发行了他们的首张专辑“Rock The House”，继而创造出他们的首支畅销曲「Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble」。这支二人组那轮廓鲜明、永远保持在普级范围内的诙谐此句以及容易琅琅上口的曲风，与当时普遍粗糙生硬、内容具煽动性的绕舌乐，有着极大的分野，使得他们立即赢得各年龄层乐迷的支持，更令他们于1988年发行的第二张作品“He’s The D.J., I’m The Rapper”一举突破250万张专辑销售，成为当时有史以来最畅销的绕舌专辑之一，而其中推出的单曲「Parents Just Don’t Understand」更突破50万张的金唱片销售，让他们成为首座葛莱美音乐奖绕舌奖项的得主。
从1987年到1993，DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince共发表了五张专辑，至今已创下全美超过6百万张的专辑销售，而期间亦早已陆续在影视界建立雄厚名望与票房基础的Will Smith，更在为其主演的票房冠军电影[MIB星际战警（Men In Black）]演唱同名畅销主题曲之后，终在广大乐迷的热烈支持下，于1997年发行了其首张个人专辑“Big Willie Style”，展开他个人辉煌的音乐旅程。虽然在影界早已是最炙手可热、戏约不断的超级巨星，五年来，Will Smith也依然坚守他对音乐热爱的初衷，相继推出三张个人专辑，不仅缔造一首接一首的畅销冠军单曲，他个人更已创下超过2千万张的专辑销售记录，赢得六座葛莱美音乐奖、8座全美音乐奖…等无数音乐奖项肯定。
